Went on a beach walk this evening, found some interesting stuff! There was a rocky area with the rocks covered in barnacles, tide pools with little fish and lots of hermit crabs, and some larger crabs. Then there was a foot long slug like spiky animal thing, I know what it is, do you?

Beach Walk

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and ate enough pumpkin pie for me, as I could not make one here, because they don't sell canned pumpkin here unless it is soup!
Today we went to a crocodile farm! We learned a lot about salt water crocodiles. They are the meanest, and largest crododiles, meanest mainly because they are very good parents. They raise about 700 babies at the farm every year. The leather from crocs is supposedly top notch. I wanted to get a wallet, but it was $675! We were going to get some croc teeth, but they were no less than $50 each!
There are bats living right in the middle of town, a swampy area with little trees. There are thousands of them! I think they are cute, kind of look like a teddy bear in the face! When hanging, we estimate them to be about a foot long from feet to head. I think they might be flying foxes, but I'm not sure.

Capricorn Caves
Last weekend we went to Capricorn Caves, which is a little less than an hour away. It was a cave, like most others, but in all, a fun afternoon! We took a tour and the guide was very knowledgeable. There were many Bent Wing Bats in the cave, I was not able to get a picture, you will have to look them up. Some of the pictures are a little fuzzy, we were not supposed to use a flash in the cave. In the end, we wound through a tight tunnel and crossed a swinging bridge. Then we saw a wallaby, one that can maneuver easily on rocks and hills. There was a hiking trail we walked on, and saw a very large toad! It was about the size of 2 or 3 american toads put together!
Danny is all set up and working, 4 am to 2 pm. The picture of the water beetle is in a bucket outside our door that we use to wash our feet in.
I would like to send a g'day mate to Miss Heitmeyer's class, and present them with a challenge:
What is a Kookaburra?

Internet
Finally, we should have internet on Tuesday morning! The internet over here is less accessible than in America and Europe (obvioulsy), and more expensive. So if everything works out, we might be able to call from our apartment on Tuesday, which would be Monday night for you.

Apartment and Car
We now have a furnished apartment on the beach, and will hopefully have internet within the week! We are also the owners of a 1998 Ford Falcon (with the steering wheel on the "wrong" side). I will be posting some pictures as soon as I can. We had our first cooked meal since leaving the US, tacos, as we have not yet found any Mexican restaurants. Went to the beach today, water felt great, and the waves were just big enough to make it more fun than swimming in the lake. There is a spiderman boogy board left in our apartment, Danny was able to catch 1 good wave. Hope everything is good back home, how's the weather?

Dinner
Last night, we went to a restaurant called Beaches. It was oober fancy, not what we expected. Other guests were a lot more dressed up than us, we felt kinda out of our league! When they brought the food, it reminded me of Top Chef. Our server said their chef was pretty well known, I guess. I didn't care for my meal to much, Danny's was better, and the dessert was the best of the meal, but I've had better. We also visited the Cooberrie Park Wildlife sanctuary. Today, we went to 2 beaches, the main Yeppoon Beach where there was a "designated" swimming area with lifeguards, it was pretty busy, and Kemp beach, where there was a few people, but not as busy. The bottom Picture on the last post is the view from our hotel in LA on our way over. The plane is the one we took from LA to Fiji.
